Weekends at the Winter's

I love weekends at Chez Winter!  That's when cheese/yogurt/breadmaking kicks in to high gear.  It's not at all unusual to see this:
What is it?  A batch of neufchatel cream cheese draining the whey.  I've tied it to my potrack w/ a strong piece of linen yarn.  In another six hours or so, it will be pressed in a colander with a plate and 8-lb weight on it overnight in the fridge, and tomorrow, salted, herbed (if desired) and then stored for some yummy eating over the next week or two.

Meantime, Mister is usually whipping up all kinds of bread options for the upcoming week--anything from homemade bagels and english muffins, to sourdough baguettes, to a whole grain sandwich bread.  Pretzels, cinnamon bread, and ciabatta find their way on to our menu occasionally as well.

It's not at all unusual to start out a Saturday with sourdough pancakes--I like mine doused in some plain, homemade yogurt and a healthy sprinkling of powdered sugar.  Normally, I'm not a huge pancake fan, but throw that sourdough in there, and I'm on board.  Mister has several sourdough "mothers" living in our house currently, each with its own character, so there's always plenty on hand for something sourdough and delicious.  YUM!

Whatcha waiting for?  Stop by and sample some of the best bread in Puyallup...and have a dollop of cream cheese or yogurt while you're at it!
